CLIMB - Developing of Performance Assessment Modelling Tool for Safety Analyses of Final Repository of Spent Nuclear Fuel
Background
In order to review SKB's license application for the siting and construction of a repository for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel SSM needs independent performance assessment (PA) models and competence. With the help of independent calculations based on the PA model some key issues for the performance assessment can be identified. For many years SSI (now part of SSM) has developed various models to undertake radiological safety assessment. Performance assessment for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel requires models that cover all the components of a leakage of radionuclide from canister failure, the transport of radionuclides in geosphere, the effect on the accumulation and redistribution of radionuclides at the geosphere-biosphere interface (GBI) and radiological effects in the biosphere.
Achievement in 2008
The Simulink module for spatially scalable models, that was used within the CLIMB project, was further improved, and the optimization tool prototype developed. The optimization tool now supporta estimation of optimal parameter values given a set of constrains defined for the simulation endpoints. The prototype was implemented as a Matlab script.
For 2009
Further improvement to the Ecolgo toolbox to complete the prototype and testing.
