Lucia - Assessing the impact of releases of radionuclides into sewage systems in urban environment - simulation, modelling and experimental studies
The project started in February 2006 with the objective refining and testing modelling tools for assessment of the impact of radionuclide releases in urban areas, focussing on the sewage water systems and liquid releases from hospitals. The prediction tools will be based on the model LUCIA, developed for SSI in Sweden that will be adjusted to comprise scenarios that are relevant in some emergency situations. Besides, experimental studies will be conducted to derive some of the model parameters. This will include laboratory studies and field investigations in sewage plants that receive releases from hospitals. Dosimetric studies will be carried out to estimate conversion coefficients for calculation of external doses. The modelling tool will be tested in each participating country.
