PREDO – PREdiction of Doses from normal releases of radionuclides to the environment – a prestudy
What is PREDO?
PREDO is the acronym for PREdiction of DOses from normal releases of radionuclides to the environment. The aim of the project, PREDO, is to revise the methods and methodology that has been used by Swedish NPPs for decades for assessing the doses to members of the public from routine releases to air and to water. It is divided into workpackages with different scope, starting with the pre-study phase in 2011.
In the pre-study phase, the current models are reviewed with respect to the dispersion and the exposure pathways, based on newer knowledge and experience in this field. Improvements will be suggested considering the needs of the licensees. One important feature of the pre-study is also to clarify how the dose predictions could become more transparent and flexible in order to handle the different scenarios requested by the operators.
About the project
The pre-study project coordinators are Anna Maria Blixt Buhr and Synnöve Sundell-Bergman, Vattenfall Research & Development, and the project sponsors are Forsmark (FKA), Ringhals (RAB) and Oskarhamn (OKG). The pre-study was divided into several topics with the involvement of several companies: SMHI (air dispersion), Facilia (terrestrial pathways) and NRG (marine dispersion and exposure pathways).
